First of all: tight is good. Very good. Tighter is even better. You should only play in hands where you're ok with playing with your whole stack. In fact, unless you've built a high-end flush right on the flop, or a good straight, I'd say just let the other players knock each other out. You'll find that, especially in lower buy-in events, most opponents are willing to do the heavy lifting for you.

Being tight means that if you're playing in a PLO Omaha HiLo tournament, you're going to want to be able to build a high and a low, no matter how weak the latter may be. Always aim for scooping the pot and unless you're sure that you can nail the high easily, don't bother.

Once you've acquired a decent enough stack, start taking shots at any small-stacked player, especially when you're holding two low cards and two high. The odds are with you: you probably not worse off than 40% and you only have to get lucky once or twice to make a little risk worth your while if you stay tight the rest of the time. If you get pulled back to average, tighten up again – there's a chance that the other players might have noticed what you were fooling around with and pay you off when you get a monster.

Even if you've got a decent enough hand, Don't get carried away with raises – just because you have a playable hand, consider if it could have company on the board or maybe even plays better short-handed (high pairs, two high/two low without immediate nut potential). Chips in any tournament are precious – don't commit any more than necessary unless you have a strong reason to believe either you're going to significantly reduce the field or you'll be able to take the pot instantly.

Despite all my advice about being tight in the beginning, you should be happy to go for a few multi-way pots for small bets early on. Don't risk more than 20% of your stack, though. Later on in the tournament, avoid any situation where you can't go heads-up unless you have a for-real monster hand.
